HAD it not been for a chance comment from an unknown parent, Emporium Parties would never have been started.

Nearly 12 years later, with five franchises across Kent and East Sussex, the business is going from strength to strength.

Owner Karen Friend said: "I love the fact that what was my baby is now making money for other people too.

"They're using my ideas, my hard work and the benefit of my mistakes to run their own businesses.

We cover all Kent and Sussex and my aim is to go nationwide. Only the UK of course – but you never know."

"Most businesses have been affected by the recession but Victoria Llewellyn, who runs the Hythe and Marsh & Maidstone franchise, has tripled trade in the last year.

"I think parents are still treating their children – you can do without some things but they always come first.

"We also rely on our reputation. We like to think we're a bit different, we'll have the full mobile disco and two entertainers, one doing all the party dances and giving out prizes and the other on the microphone.

"The parties are full of interaction throughout so parents can relax, sit back and leave the job to us."
